Partial CRPN pensions can be claimed and paid through the alternating work-retirement program pursuant to decisions from CRPN’s board of directors, which break the retirement process down into 3 steps:
- The member claims the first portion of their pension entitlements,
- A pension is paid on the basis of the member’s days off work through the alternating work-retirement program,
- The member claims the second portion of their pension entitlements on the day after they fully retire from all air crew employment.
The participating member’s claim for the first portion of their entitlements will be calculated based on the career they have accrued through the day before their pension payable date, applying the factors that are current to that date.
Pensions paid through the alternating work-retirement program are then uprated each year using the upward adjustment rate for pensions; the career taken into account is determined by the effective date that applies to the member’s partial claim through the alternating work-retirement program.
Pension claims through the alternating work-retirement program prior to 2016
The pension you are paid based on your days off work through the alternating work-retirement program is calculated on the basis of your career up to and including December 31, 2017.
Periods of employment accrued from 2018 will be taken into account when you claim the second portion of your entitlements, at the time that you fully retire from all air crew employment.
Pension claims through the alternating work-retirement program from 2016
The pension you are paid based on your days off work through the alternating work-retirement program is calculated on the basis of your career up to the day before the effective date for your alternating work-retirement program pension claim.
Periods of employment accrued from that date will be taken into account when you claim the second portion of your entitlements, at the time that you fully retire from all air crew employment.
You will have noticed a difference between the pension you are drawing through the alternating work-retirement program and the amount that appears on your notice of entitlements: indeed, the amount that appears on your notice of entitlements is calculated on the basis of the entire career that has been credited to your account.
When you claim the remainder of your entitlements, the entire career that you have accrued will be taken into account when each portion of your pension is calculated (the portion claimed through the alternating work-retirement program and the remainder claimed upon full retirement from air crew employment).
